VW AND AUDI LOW ENGINE OIL
VW and Audi low engine oil is not a good thing. Ever. And it is NOT “Normal” though many people say that it is. Extended oil service intervals of 10,000 miles do not help the cause. We recommend a proper oil service with quality OEM spec oil and filter every 5,000 miles.
Running your VW or Audi engine low on oil can cause MAJOR internal damage. Don’t assume that your oil level is ok because you never get a warning light on the dash. For example, we had a Volkswagen Tiguan client whose vehicle was 3 quarts low on oil. The warning light NEVER illuminated on the instrument cluster telling them to add oil. To note: Their Tiguan only holds 5 quarts of oil ! No oil pressure light and no crazy engine noises to let them know of a problem. An EPC light is what ultimately brought them to us.
To recap, if you are adding engine oil to your Volkswagen or Audi, there is a problem. Causes could be an oil leak, oil consumption and burning oil or something major.
