Are you adding engine oil between maintenance services because the oil light came up on the dash of your VW or Audi ?  You may have a Check Engine Light or even an EPC light illuminate on the dash.  These are definitely NOT lights that you want to dismiss !  Running a vehicle low on oil will create internal engine damage if left for too long.

Having the proper amount of oil in your Volkswagen or Audi is very important and the number of quarts varies from vehicle to vehicle.  For instance, a 2012 VW GTI takes 5 quarts but a 2019 GTI takes 6 quarts.  A Volkswagen Atlas 3.6L takes 6 quarts of oil but an Audi Q7 takes 7 quarts.  Step 1 is to always ensure that you have a proper starting point after an oil change.  Many quick lube oil shops think that 5 quarts is the golden rule and that is not always true.
