VOLKSWAGEN AND AUDI COOLANT is pink. This is the only antifreeze color that should ever go into your German import vehicle. It is called G13 (G12 for older vehicles). Anything else is incorrect and may cause avoidable expensive problems !
Coolant (also known as antifreeze) is the lifeline of the cooling system in your Volkswagen and Audi car or SUV. If coolant level is low because of a leak, the system cannot function properly and your vehicle may overheat. Components of a vehicle’s cooling system include the water pump and thermostat, radiator, heater core and hoses and pipes. If one of these items gets clogged, coolant cannot flow. If coolant cannot flow, your car may overheat or run hot. Consequently, this equals big money and possible permanent internal engine damage !
We often see a VW or Audi in the shop with the wrong antifreeze in the overflow reservoir. Sometimes it is green, other times it is a mix-all orange color or even brown. While topping off your Volkswagen or Audi with just any coolant sounds safe, it actually is not. This creates major issues over time. Non-OEM coolants mix poorly with G13 (or G12) VW and Audi coolant and begin to thicken upon contact. That thicker liquid now travels constantly in a closed loop through your cooling system. NOT good.
If your VW or Audi develops a coolant leak, give Das Autohaus a call at 803-520-8523. In the meantime, look for G13 (pink or lilac in color) antifreeze for your import vehicle. Certainly an auto parts store will be happy to sell you generic coolant. Know what your vehicle needs and only use that. Failure to use correct fluids or running fluids low can lead to expensive repairs.
