VW OR AUDI COLD START ENGINE MISFIRE

Does your Volkswagen or Audi vehicle run rough when you first crank it up in the morning? This was the exact concern of our Audi Q3 customer. Eventually her Check Engine and EPC light came on the dash and she felt like the engine was misfiring. We noted that spark plug replacement was long overdue based on mileage but felt like something else was going on.  

We removed the intake manifold on her Audi Q3 and found that her intake valves were full of carbon deposits.  Carbon is the by-product of a direct injection engine combustion process where fuel does not fully burn.  The soot that is left behind collects on the intake valves and decreases the amount of air that can flow.  Her engine was not able to breathe as it should and therefore the engine was showing misfire data on the scan tool. We carbon blasted her valves with walnut shells and now her engine breathes well!
