VW AND AUDI COOLANT LEAK
Does your VW or Audi have a coolant leak ? A coolant light on the dash of your VW or Audi is NOT something that you want to dismiss. Coolant level can drop over time due to evaporation but more often than not, your vehicle has likely developed a coolant leak. Run your vehicle low on antifreeze and you can overheat the engine !
A common failure item is the water pump. A water pump’s job is to push coolant throughout the vehicle from the radiator through the engine and back to the radiator where the cycle begins again. Other possible coolant leak sources could be coolant hoses, plastic housings and even the radiator. Coolant ensures that your Volkswagen or Audi’s engine remains a constant temperature so a breach in the system definitely affects things !
Here are a few signs that your vehicle may be low on coolant:
– you notice a slick and shimmery spot on the driveway or garage floor
– the temp gauge on your dash is creeping towards the red mark
– you have a thermometer icon illuminated on the dash
– your A/C is not working (cooling) correctly
– you have a Check Engine light on
Running your Volkswagen or Audi low on coolant can cause significant damage to your engine if left unaddressed. In addition to keeping a watch on the temperature gauge on your dash, you can also visually check your coolant level by raising the hood and looking at your coolant overflow jug. The contents should be bright pink/lilac and the level should be between the Max and Min lines. NOTE: Do not ever open a hot cooling system as it may explode !
